The JV team did an outstanding job in their 2-0 loss at Courtland on Friday. Grace played really tough defense in the middle, part of an overall great team effort, but unfortunately the team did not get many scoring opportunities. However, the overall effort was great, and the team looks to be coming together at exactly the right time.
The Varsity game started, of course, with the onset of rain. The slipshod conditions led to a couple of skipping goals, and the defense often found it tough to get footing against the talented Courtland offense. Stephanie Floyd earned her stripes, marking Kara for most of the night. The team did well in one-on-one defending, but a lack of communication between the backs is evident when there are too many one v. one breakdowns. It is a learning experience, and we will get another crack at them soon.
Enjoy the day off from practice, and let's have a breakout performance this week.

Effort does not equal victory...
A tough night for the soccer program on Tuesday, but not one that is without hope. Both teams lost 8-0 to a very talented Chancellor group, but both teams gave maximum effort and intensity. Year in and year out, the Chargers field a top-flight program. They are well-coached and well-conditioned, as well as talented, and should be a barometer for us to measure ourselves by.
The JV team continues to make strides this season, and should look at the Chancellor game as an opportunity to be humble about the team's fast start. Kelsey Link played well, connecting on a number of passes. Courtney Wheeler and Lisa Moskowitz also brought their "A game" to the midfield. Chin up ladies, Friday won't be any easier, but any game you go into with the expectation of a loss is lost before the coin flip.
The Varsity team again played well, but the score didn't reflect the effort. Erica Kreutzer played amazingly in goal, making 16 saves. The defense again looked cohesive, and save for a few tweaks, can be lights out at times. Megan Hesse did REALLY well in her position, whatever position the coaches put her at, and has come a long way this season. Donnelly played well, especially defensively, and Candice Marbaker made the most of her starting opportunity to show the coaches just how talented she is. Rest, heal, and be ready to play your favorite team on Friday.

Confidence
Congratulations to the JV team for their impressive 3-o shutout victory over King George. Ashleigh Crisp scored twice, Lauren Sisson scored once, and Jessie Strong added an assist. Theresa Livelsberger was strong in goal again, stopping all five shots she faced. The defense did well, especially considering they were missing Lisa Moskowitz. Holly, Grace, and Lauren all did a great job clearing the ball out of danger. Excellent work ladies!
Varsity was on the short end of a 5-0 loss, but the score doesn't indicate how hard the team played. The defense was stout, as two first-time Varsity starts were made by our outside backs. Luttrell, Corker, and Tori all did a fabulous job. A couple of scoring opportunities didn't bounce our way, and a couple of unlucky bounces did go the Foxes' way, and as a result, the team didn't get the results they were hoping for. This is nothing to be ashamed of... you all played extremely hard, and I am proud of the effort you put forth.

Taming the Lions
Congrats to the JV team for an impressive season-opening victory over Louisa. Chelsea White scored twice and Kelsey Link also scored in the 3-1 victory Thursday. The team did a great job controlling the midfield, and it seemed like everyone knew where they were supposed to be positioned. Jessie Strong in particular seemed to be able to go at will against the Lions defense, making several nice runs. The team also benefitted from a strong defensive mid line, with the return of Courtney Wheeler to the field and a standout performance from Lisa Moskowitz, who earned an assist off of a corner kick. I cannot emphasize enough how much this team has improved since last year. Keep up the good work!

In the beginning...
Great start to the '09 season, Lady Knights. JV played a great game, leaving with a 1-1 tie and dominating most of the afternoon. Kelsey Link scored off of a great feed from Jessie Strong, and Livelsberger made 7 saves in goal. This year's team is already leaps and bounds better than last year, and there is a lot of untapped potential remaining.
Varsity played 75 intense minutes before leaving with a 0-0 tie. Perry and Stidham combined to make several nice saves, but it was the improved play of the defense that led the way to the shutout. Lauren Luttrell, Tori Huber, Sam Corker, Tiffany Hare, and Erica Kreutzer all looked great on the back line. Cook made the move to midfield, where she connected on several nice passes.
What we learned last night is that this team is ready and willing to work hard. It is up to us to work in practice to maximize the results of these efforts. In other words, we need to make the easy things easier, and the hard things second nature. It will come in time... remember that we have only been on the practice field twice all year!
