Moving On...

Congratulations to the JV soccer team, who continues their historic roll towards the district championship game by defeating James Monroe 6-0 Wednesday night. Kelsey Link, Lauren Sisson, and Chelsea White all kept up in the goals race by scoring once each. Kristi Dickinson netted a goal and an assist, and Jessie Strong also tallyed a goal. Kudos to Amber Collins, who has come a long way since conditioning, for her first high school goal. Congrats to all, ladies, you have had a magnificent season. Good luck against Chancellor on Monday.

Varsity played hard for the seniors, but ultimately lost 4-0 to the most talented JM team I have seen. Playing without Floyd and an injured Sullivan and Cook (for the first half) AND playing less than 24 hours after giving your all against Eastern View can be very convenient excuses, but the team instead played with heart and courage. Congratulations on a fine season, ladies, one that I hope you are proud of.

I know I am.

Joy and Pain

Congratulations to the JV team for their 3-1 victory over Eastern View Tuesday night. Kelsey Link scored twice, and Lauren Sisson added a goal and an assist. Birthday girl Livelsberger earned her 9th victory of the season in goal, recording 7 saves. The midfield did an excellent job winning 50/50 balls and Courtney kept the defense running smoothly. The team received good news after the game, when they found out that their 9-3-1 record places them second in the district behind only Chancellor, with only a victory over James Monroe standing between them and the district championship game against Chancellor. WAY TO GO LADIES.

Varsity played an absolutely thrilling game, and left everything on the field. However, the effort did not warrant a victory, as Eastern View got one more break than the Knights in winning 4-3 in double overtime. Aggy scored twice, once on a PK and once on a sweet pass from Aldinger, and Luttrell scored on a direct kick for the Knights. In the end, Eastern View earned a hard-fought victory, but the coaching staff could not be prouder of the effort of the team. The parents and fans also appreciated the hard work, and the one compliment I kept hearing was how far the team had come. The season is not over by any stretch of the imagination... let's finish strong with a good effort against JM tonight.

SENIOR SEND-OFF

Great effort from both teams Friday night. The JV team got the first slaughter-rule victory I have ever witnessed in a JV game, winning 8-0 in just 45 minutes of play. Kristi and Sisson each scored a pair of goals, with Ashleigh, Kelsey, Jessie, and Chelsea (they rhyme!) each scoring a goal. Kelsey also got credited with an assist, but it was the one-on-one play of the team that did most of the damage. Two very winnable games left, ladies, but you already sport an impressive 8-3-1 record, by far the best JV record in my six years on the staff. Coach Bounds has done amazing things this year, and she deserves a lot of the credit for your successes.

The Varsity team matched its scoring effort from the last game against Caroline, reaching 9 goals for the second time this season. After an emotional senior night presentation, Aggy set the tone with four goals for the second time this year, and also added an assist. Floyd scored twice, LT scored once, Tiffany scored a sweet one-time goal, but the most impressive goal may have belonged to Mindy Cook. Mindy took advantage of the opportunity to play up to pepper the goal right before halftime, finally connecting with her first high school goal. Aldinger and Luttrell added assists, and Megan Hesse also helped the cause with two assists. Great way to finish the home portion of our schedule, placing our record at 4-7.

AMAZING!

Congratulations to the JV team for their thrilling come-from-behind victory over King George last night. Kelsey Link scored two breakaway goals, the second of which proved to be the game winner, as she chipped over the keeper after blowing past the KG defense. A big kudos goes out to Holly Lumsden, who played her best game of the year. Holly constantly stopped KG attacks and proved adept at sending the ball back over the top. Moskowitz and Chelsea literally wore their efforts off of the field, taking some of Spotsy's finest mud home with them. Lauren Sisson, Kristi Dickinson, Ashleigh Crisp, and Jessie Strong did well to maintain their composure during a very physical game. Overall, it was a total team effort, and the team looks strong heading into its last three games. Good luck, and keep up the great work!

Pictures from the "aftermath" of the game, as well as other pics, are now posted below.

Building Momentum...

Congrats to both teams for their efforts on Friday. JV won with relative ease, recording yet another shutout victory, 6-0. Kelsey Link scored three quick goals in the first half, with Chelsea, Livelsberger, and Sisson also scoring. Sisson added two assists, and Moskowitz also added an assist. This improves the JV record to 6-3-1, a truly remarkable record that should be praised.

Varsity won their match 8-1, thanks to strong efforts from Aggy and Aldinger. Aggy got three goals and three assists, two of which went to Dinger. Dinger returned the favor twice, and got two goals of her own. Tiffany Hare also added a goal, her first of the season, then decided she was bored and ran two PRs at the track meet less than 12 hours later. Floyd also picked up a goal, but it was "The Freshman" who picks up the highlight with her first Varsity goal. Congrats, Candice, good work. Your effort has paid off.

With few subs on both teams, and a few more playing injured, credit should go to the players who contribute in non-statistical categories. Courtney Wheeler played outstanding defense, and Amber Collins continues to gut it out for JV. Cook and Corker played well in the absence of Luttrell, and we all know that no one can outrace Tori. Good work, ladies. Let's continue to build momentum for the end of the season.
